Picture The Dinosaur: An Origin Story

Picture The Dinosaur exists because I can't stop thinking about dinosaurs.

In fact, Picture The Dinosaur exists because a lot of people can't stop thinking about dinosaurs. Since humans first began to uncover the bones of these ancient beast we began to draw them, to tell stories about them, to imagine what it was like in their world, and what it would be like if they were in ours.

An interest in dinosaurs is not the sole territory of children. They make appearances in the pages of Sir Author Conan Doyle's novels, our public broadcasting children’s TV shows, comics, tattoos and blockbuster films. That kind of popularity is impressive for a species that disappeared 60 million years before our ancestors took their first bi-pedal steps.

Picture The Dinosaur has been created to archive the plethora of ways our artistic and creative species have depicted dinosaurs and how our fascination with them continues to grow. The site will explore the individuals and organizations behind these pop-culture dinosaurs and also take a look at how sometimes when we recreate dinosaurs we get it right, and how sometimes creativity wins over accuracy.

In these pages I'll seek simple answers to a complex question:

In a world of endless technology, why do so many of us, when we close our eyes, picture the Dinosaur?
